Around the time Deathwish became The Loved Ones, the band had redone their sound as a collective interest in straight ahead Rock & Roll grew. Jordan Wood and Jono Kornfeld were serious Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath fans. Bobby and Dimitri were rediscovering the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. The band revisited some of their already-existing songs and wrote enough new material to undertake the band's most ambitious recording project.
I think the band recorded in the summer of 1987 at Newbury Sound. By this time, Jordan Wood had joined Slapshot and was not as interested in The Loved Ones initiative. And when the band actually went into the studio, Jordan Wood couldn't make it and Jono Kornfeld played most of the bass tracks [not nearly as well as Jordan Wood would have].
Shortly after the band had mixed the recording [and maybe we did a couple of gigs using this new material], Jordan Wood and Jono Kornfeld quit the band. Bobby, Dimitri and Rich carried on and did another show or two with other players [most notably, Nate Albert, The Bosstones' original guitar player, filled in one time on guitar and Jono Kornfeld actually "filled in" on bass].
Bobby Frankheim and Dimitri Demos saw the recording project through and released a very limited edition tape: "The Loved Ones, Seven Deadly Dins". There are very few copies around today. The overall quality of the recording was not very satisfactory and in subsequent years, the band messed around with some remixes of these tunes to see if they could get a better sound. It never got much better.
The band was probably officially broken up by 1989 or so. Bobby Frankheim, Richard Dellveccio and Dimitri Demos continued to jam together once in a while, but they were never a band again.
Where Are They Now?
Bobby Frankenheim and Richard Dellveccio still live in Boston and still play music together.
Dimitri probably still lives in Boston, but nobody speaks to him. There was some kind of falling out. He was a brilliant person in many ways, but never a very happy one.
Jordan Wood joined Slapshot in 1986/1987 but left in early 1991. His life tragically ended in 1994 when he committed suicide.
Jono Kornfeld lives in San Francisco where he is finishing a masters degree in music composition. He also play jazz piano and teach music theory at his university and at another school. He also wrote a basic textbook about beginning music theory.
