INTERVIEWS
Question: What was the first record you ever bought? Jack Kelly: It might have been Ted Nugent - "Double Live Gonzo". I'm talking like 1976, 1977 here. It must have been Ted Nugent or Kiss - "Hotter Than Hell". One of those probably. Question: What record did you recently buy? Jack Kelly: The last album I bought was "Cream Anthems Spring 2002", a double CD set. It's a house collection of a British dance night. Occasionally I find something that I like and I listen to it and I thought this was cool. Question: Which albums have influenced you as a musician? Jack Kelly: Well, I suppose Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, the old stuff. Question: What are the 5 best albums you have? Jack Kelly: Minor Threat - "Complete Discography", Dead Kennedys - "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables", "Torque" by No U-Turn Records, Marduk's "Panzer Division Marduk" and "Roir Sessions" by Bad Brains. And Kiss - "Alive" as number five-and-a-half. Question: What album surprised you the most when you heard it the first time? Jack Kelly: These are very hard questions! It's a lot of years and I'm fucking old! I think it was the first Low record. They're my favorite band of the last ten years. And their third record "The Curtain Hits The Cast", it's fucking amazing. I still listen to that all the time. Question: Which one disappointed you the most? Jack Kelly: "Unconsciousness" by Slapshot. That was fucking horrible! Chris Lauria: I listen to that record all the time! I don't like it as a Slapshot record, but I think it's a great record. It's so intense! Question: What's the best album title ever? Jack Kelly: That has to be an Anal Cunt record. But I can't think of the title right now. Question: What's the best record from your parents' record collection? Question: Which album has the best artwork ever? Jack Kelly: "Unconsciousness" again, ha-ha! That's actually pretty good artwork. And there's this one Drum & Bass label that always has great artwork. Question: Which one is the ugliest? Jack Kelly: "Unconsciousness" by Slapshot! It's fucking horrible! And anything put out on Taang! Records. Question: What do you sing when you're in the shower? Jack Kelly: I don't sing in the shower. Most of the time it's all in my head, I think it. I make up stuff in the shower. That and when I'm driving, that's when I think of new stuff. You can tell when I'm writing, because I keep the beat with my teeth. Question: Of what band do you own the most records? Jack Kelly: At this moment? There's a record label from England called Renegade Hardware, it's all Drum & Bass, and I have every release they ever put out. It's like up to number 37 now, most of it are singles. And I own all the Kiss records, but I stopped after "Alive II". I don't have any by The Beatles or Rolling Stones, because all you have to do to listen to that stuff is turn on the radio. I wouldn't buy by The Beatles, but I might buy a Rolling Stones record, probably a greatest hits or something. But since 1996 I've been into Drum & Bass, so that's pretty much all I bought. Question: Which albums are you still looking for? Jack Kelly: The only thing I really look for now is Norwegian Black Metal. Stuff I never heard. I always ask people "What have you heard lately?" and I go to Kazaa and do searches for different stuff. I started collecting Cannibal Corpse lately, but I don't buy records anymore. I try to download it for free if I can, because my money goes to other things. My friend owns a record shop in Boston with just Drum & Bass. He gives me records, I put them on my hard drive and give them back to him. So that's why the last record I actually bought was that Cream one.
